Acclaimed as “a player of impressive authority and presence” (The Strad) and “one of the top violinists of tomorrow” (Diapason), Belgian born Yossif Ivanov, at the age of 22 years, has already an impressive list of musical prizes and concert appearances.

He is an award winner of numerous competitions. Most notably he was awarded the First Prize at the Montreal International Music Competition at the young age of 16, becoming one of the youngest winners ever of this competition. At the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels in 2005, he was awarded the Second Prize and also the Public Prize. At the Midem Classical Awards in 2006, he received the Outstanding Young Artist award.

Yossif Ivanov was named as the ECHO Rising Star by the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels for 2005-2006. As part of that prize he has performed a recital tour, which included Carnegie Hall, Musikverein Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Cité de la Musique (Paris) as well as Symphony Hall Birmingham. These venues are added to an ever-increasing and impressive list of concert venues which span Europe (Philharmonie Essen in Germany ; Salle Pleyel, Louvre, Menton & Montpelliers Festivals in France; Victoria Hall in Genève; Konzerthaus in Vienna; a tour in Spain with Royal Flemish Philharmonic and Jaap Van Zweden), the US (Haverford Youth Festival), Canada (The Ladies’ Morning Musical Club, Festival Lanaudière) and South America. In April 2007, he made a critically acclaimed debut in London, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop.

As an orchestral soloist, he has been invited to perform concertos with orchestras such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, National Polish Radio Orchestra Katowice, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Brabants Orkest, Orchestre National d’Ile de France, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Marseille, Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, UBS Verbier Chamber Orchestra and all important Belgian orchestras. He worked with conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Marin Alsop, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Paul Goodwin, Yoav Talmi, Jaap Van Zweden, Yoel Levi, Damion Iorio, Joana Carneiro, Christoph Warren Green, John Axelrod, David Stern, Louis Langrée, and Pierre Bartholomée.

During the seasons 08/09 and 09/10, he will play debut concerts with Konzerthausorchester Berlin (M.Alsop), Residentie Orkest/The Hague Philharmonic (N.Järvi), Milano Verdi Orchestra (M.Tang), Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse. Yossif Ivanov is invited as artist in residence of Musis Sacrum in Arnhem (the Netherlands) in 08/09 and will play recitals at Mozarteum in Salzburg, Flanders Festival and Beethovenfest in Bonn.

In November 2006 his first CD on the Ambroisie/Naïve label was awarded a Diapason d’Or de l’Année, the most important recording industry award in France, presented to the best recordings of the year. During the year 2008, his second recital CD with Itamar Golan has been released, as well as his first concerto CD, with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic conducted by Pinchas Steinberg.

Yossif Ivanov has studied the violin with Zakhar Bron in Lübeck, with Igor & Valery Oistrakh at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and with Augustin Dumay at the Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Belgium, where he finished his studies in June 2007. Since 2008, Yossif Ivanov teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
