Acclaimed as “a player of impressive authority and presence” (The Strad) and “one of the top violinists of tomorrow” (Diapason), Yossif Ivanov, at the age of 23, has quickly established himself as one of the leading violinists of the young generation. He was awarded the First Prize at the Montreal International Competition at the young age of 16, and the Second Prize as well as the Public Prize at the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels at the age of 18.

Over the past seasons Yossif Ivanov has made acclaimed debuts in all major European cities such as London (London Philharmonic Orchestra), Berlin (Konzerthausorchester), Paris (Orchestre National d’Ile de France), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Vienna (Wiener Kammerorchester), Salzburg (Mozarteum) and Geneva (Orchestre de la Suisse Romande).

Yossif Ivanov has been invited to play recitals at, among many others, Menton & Montpellier Festivals in France, Philharmonie Essen in Germany, Carnegie Hall in New York and Ladies’ Morning Musical Club in Montréal. Apart from his regular recital partners Itamar Golan and Philippe Ivanov, he also collaborated with the pianists Ingrid Fliter, Frank Braley, David Kadouch and Plamena Mangova.

As an orchestral soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest The Hague, English Chamber Orchestra, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Lille and all the major orchestras in Belgium. He has worked with well-known conductors such as Neëme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap Van Zweden, John Axelrod and Yoel Levi.

Highlights of forthcoming seasons include orchestral debuts in the USA (tour with London Philharmonic Orchestra / Vladimir Jurowski) and in Asia (Malaysian Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestras). He will also give concerts with Milano Verdi Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal and Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, and is re-invited at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam (Brabants Orkest / Yuri Simonov). Yossif Ivanov will play recitals at the Flanders Festival, the Beethovenfest in Bonn and the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti Roma.

In November 2006, his first CD on the Ambroisie/Naïve label was awarded a Diapason d’Or de l’Année, the most important recording industry award in France. His first concerto CD, a coupling of the first concerto of Shostakovitch and the second of Bartók, was very well received by the musical press. For his second orchestral disc, which will include works of Henri Dutilleux and will be released later this year, Yossif Ivanov collaborated with the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Lyon and Kazushi Ono.

Yossif Ivanov has studied the violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor & Valery Oistrakh and Augustin Dumay. He is the youngest violin teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

Yossif Ivanov plays on the 1699 “Lady Tennant” Stradivarius, kindly lent by the Stradivarius Society of Chicago.
